Medjool Dates San Diego — Bulk Cases & Farm-Direct Boxes

We grow Medjool and Zahidi dates on our family farm in Sky Valley, in the Coachella Valley — about ninety minutes up Highway 79 from North County San Diego, and around two hours from downtown. That makes us the nearest date farm most San Diego kitchens can buy from directly. Everything here is picked and packed on the ranch, not pulled from a warehouse that bought it months ago.

Bulk Medjool dates for San Diego businesses

Case Price Per lb
24 lb $228 $9.50/lb
36 lb $333 $9.25/lb
60 lb $540 $9.00/lb
100 lb $875 $8.75/lb

Shipping is included on every case. Zahidi cases run the same sizes at the same prices, and you can mix the two varieties in one order. Cases ship as sealed 2 lb or 1 lb retail containers — your choice at checkout — so they go straight onto a shelf, into a walk-in, or out on a cheese board without repacking. Over 150 lb, call for a pallet quote.

Case orders already ship to North County — San Marcos, Escondido, Vista, Oceanside, Carlsbad — and down into the city. Restaurants, cafés, juice bars, bakeries, caterers and specialty grocers across San Diego County buy by the case. Not sure yet? Order a 2 lb box for $29 and we credit it in full against your first case.

What “premium” actually means on a date

It is not a regulated term, so here is what we mean by it — and what to ask anyone else who uses it.

  • Count per pound. Our jumbo Medjools run roughly 22 to 28 dates per pound. Smaller grades run 30 or more. If a seller will not tell you the count, they are selling you a word.
  • Current season. Dates store well, so last year’s crop can legitimately be sold as fresh after months in cold storage. Ask when it was picked.
  • Whole and unpitted. The pit comes out with your fingers, and the fruit is handled less on its way to you.
  • Nothing added. No glucose syrup coating to fake plumpness, no sulfites, no added sugar. One ingredient.
  • Grown, not sourced. These come off our own palms. Plenty of companies selling dates online are repackers with a warehouse — not dishonest, but a different thing, and the price rarely reflects the difference.

We are not certified organic and we do not describe ourselves as organic. We grow without pesticides, which is the narrower and accurate claim.

What we grow

Medjool — large, soft, caramel-sweet. Jumbo grade, 22 to 28 per pound. The one most people mean when they say dates.

Zahidi — golden, semi-dry, firmer and nuttier, and it keeps far longer. Better for baking, chopping and savoury cooking, and it holds its shape in a mixer where Medjool turns to paste. Very few farms sell it as whole fruit. See our Zahidi vs Medjool comparison.

Barhi — seasonal and limited. Check current availability.

Shipping to San Diego

  • Orders leave the farm within 3 business days
  • USPS Ground Advantage — San Diego is a short hop from the ranch, typically 1 to 3 business days in transit
  • Shipping included in every price to the lower 48 — boxes and cases alike, nothing added at checkout
  • We pack and ship every order ourselves from the ranch

Serving San Diego, Chula Vista, Oceanside, Escondido, Carlsbad, El Cajon, Vista, San Marcos, Encinitas, La Mesa, Poway, Temecula, Coronado and across San Diego County.

Storing them

Medjools keep in a cool, dry cupboard for up to 3 months, in the fridge for up to a year, or frozen for longer. They are high-moisture, so keep them sealed and away from heat. Zahidis keep noticeably longer because they hold less water. More in our date storage guide.

Common questions

How long does delivery take to San Diego?
Orders leave the farm within 3 business days and arrive by USPS Ground Advantage typically 1 to 3 business days after that.

What is the minimum for case pricing?
A 24 lb case. Below that, retail boxes run 1 lb to 12 lb, shipping included, down to $9.83/lb.

Do you sell wholesale to San Diego businesses?
Yes — Medjool and Zahidi cases in 24, 36, 60 and 100 lb, from $9.50/lb down to $8.75/lb, shipping included. Over 150 lb we quote a pallet. Call (760) 501-1845 or order online.

Can I try them before ordering a case?
Yes. Order a 2 lb box for $29 and we credit it in full against your first case order.

Is shipping really included?
Yes, to the lower 48. Nothing is added at checkout. Alaska and Hawaii are rated at checkout because they genuinely cost more.

Are the dates pitted?
No. Whole and unpitted, which keeps them fresher and means less handling.

Are they organic?
Not certified. We grow without pesticides, which is a narrower claim than certification and the only one we are entitled to make.

More places we ship

San Diego already buys from us — wholesale. A San Marcos organic farm store stocks our Medjool by the case, ordered after tasting the difference two hours of freshness makes: we pick in Sky Valley and your box is packed the week you order, not pulled from a port warehouse. For San Diego shops, cafés and markets, wholesale cases run 24–100 lbs with freight included — and a 2 lb sample box is credited in full against your first case.

Why San Diego gets our freshest fruit: your city sits in our next-day shipping zone — so your dates spend about a day in transit, not weeks on a store shelf or months in a distributor’s warehouse. Every order is packed the day it ships, from fruit we harvested by hand, graded by hand, and keep in our own cold room. What lands on your counter is the same fruit we eat standing in the grove — just a day younger than if you’d driven out to get it.

Pitted or whole — which should San Diego buyers order?
We ship Medjool whole, with the pit in — on purpose. The pit is nature’s freshness seal: whole dates stay softer and moister in transit and storage, while pre-pitted fruit dries at the opening and loses its gloss within weeks. Pitting takes ten seconds at home (slit one side, squeeze — the pit pops free), and for bulk kitchen use our date paste method handles pitting by the pound. If your San Diego market or kitchen truly needs pre-pitted product, call us at (760) 501-1845 — we’ll talk honestly about options and trade-offs.
