Premium California Dates
“Premium” gets used loosely. Here is what we mean by it, so you can hold us to it.
- One farm. Every date comes off our own trees in Sky Valley, California. Not a blend of whatever a packer had that week.
- Top grade only. Our Medjools are sorted Jumbo — the largest commercial size, about 22–28 fruit per pound.
- Hand-harvested at full ripeness. Picked at the tamr stage on the palm, not picked early and ripened off the tree.
- Whole and unpitted. The pit keeps the fruit sealed and soft. Why that matters →
- One ingredient. No sugar, syrup, oil, glaze, sulphites or preservatives.
- No pesticides — though we are not certified organic, and we won’t pretend to be.
Why the Coachella Valley
This valley grows the large majority of America’s dates, and not by accident. The date palm needs ferocious summer heat, almost no summer rain, and groundwater within reach of a shallow root system. The Coachella Valley floor — much of it below sea level — is one of the few places in the country that offers all three. It is about as close to the palm’s native Middle Eastern conditions as North America gets.
The three we grow
Jumbo Medjool
The one most people mean when they say “dates.” Large, soft, deep caramel. Best eaten as they are, stuffed, or blended as a natural sweetener. From $19 →
Zahidi
Golden, semi-dry, firm, with a nutty brown-butter flavor and far less sugar impact than a Medjool. The one to cook with — it holds its shape under heat. Baking guide →
Barhi
The rare one. Barhi are eaten fresh rather than dried — butterscotch-sweet, almost creamy, with a texture nothing else matches. A short season, August into September, and they sell out. See Barhi →
Pricing
From $19 for a pound down to $9.83/lb at twelve, and $9.00/lb on bulk cases. Shipping is inside every price to the lower 48 — when you compare us to another quote, add their freight first.
