Khajoor: Fresh California Dates, Farm-Direct (کھجور / खजूर)

Khajoor (کھجور / खजूर) is the Urdu and Hindi word for dates — the same fruit, from the same date palm. If you grew up calling them khajoor and you’re searching for where to buy them fresh in America, here’s the answer from people who grow them: they come from California’s Coachella Valley, and you can buy them directly from our family farm.

Khajoor by any name

One fruit, many languages: khajoor in Urdu and Hindi, khajur in Gujarati and Marathi, khejur in Bengali, tamar in Arabic and Hebrew, khorma in Farsi. In American stores it’s simply “dates” — which makes it surprisingly hard to search for if khajoor is the word your family uses.

Which khajoor we grow

Medjool — the big, soft, caramel-sweet variety most prized for eating fresh and for breaking the Ramadan fast. Jumbo grade, 22–28 per pound, whole and unpitted.

Zahidi — golden, firmer, less sweet; excellent chopped into desserts, kheer, and cooking. Keeps beautifully.

Barhi — the honey-soft delicacy, seasonal; join the harvest waitlist.

Why buy khajoor from the farm

  • Fresh crop, not warehouse stock. Hand-harvested here in late summer, packed on the ranch. Ask when your box was picked and we’ll tell you.
  • One ingredient, halal by nature. Whole raw fruit — no glucose coating, no sulfites, nothing added. See our Ramadan & iftar page for the season.
  • Shipping included across the lower 48 — boxes 1–12 lb ($19–$118), and wholesale cases for masjids, halal markets and iftar programs at $9.00–9.50/lb.

Common questions

Is khajoor the same as dates?
Yes — identical fruit. Khajoor is the Urdu/Hindi name; “dates” is the English one.

Which khajoor is best for Ramadan?
Medjool for softness and quick energy at iftar; many families keep Zahidi alongside for cooking and suhoor dishes. Ramadan begins in mid-February 2027 — order early in the month and your box arrives settled.

Is your khajoor halal?
It’s whole, raw, single-ingredient fruit with nothing added — halal by its nature. We’re a family farm, not a processor.

How should I store khajoor?
Cool and dry for 3 months, refrigerated up to a year, frozen even longer — our full storage method.
