The Date Farmer is the grower side of Desert Sun Dates. Same farm, same palms: our orchard in Sky Valley, California, in the Coachella Valley, planted since 2016. If you want to grow dates rather than eat them, this is where to start: true-to-variety female offshoots, hands-on help from a working grower, and every guide we’ve written.

Female date palm offshoots

Zahidi offshoots each season, plus a small yearly allotment of Medjool by waitlist. Cut from our own fruiting females, so you know exactly what it will grow.

Why buy a palm from a working date farm

  • True to variety, every time. An offshoot is a genetic copy of its mother. Ours come from females we’ve hand-pollinated and harvested for years, so a Zahidi offshoot grows Zahidi and a Medjool offshoot grows Medjool.
  • Female, guaranteed. A date palm grown from a seed has roughly even odds of being male and never fruiting, and if it’s female it won’t match the fruit it came from. Be careful with any “Medjool palm” grown from a Medjool seed: it isn’t one. More in Male vs. Female Date Palm.
  • Clean ground. Our grove sits on its own with no neighboring farms, is fed with compost and never sprayed. You’re getting a palm from an orchard we watch every week.
  • Advice from someone who does the work. We pollinate, thin, bag, pick and pack every bunch ourselves. The guides on this site are written from that.

Quick Answers

Do you sell date palm offshoots? Yes: female Zahidi offshoots each season and a limited number of Medjool by waitlist. Details here.

Do you ship palms? No. Offshoots are heavy and fresh-cut ones dry out fast, so they’re picked up at the farm by appointment, dug the same day.

Can you help with a palm I already have? Yes. See date palm consulting.
