Straight answer first: our Medjool dates are not certified organic. If you need the USDA Organic seal for a store shelf, a school policy or a personal rule, we’re not the right fit, and we’d rather tell you now than after you order. If what you actually want to know is how the fruit was grown, here’s exactly how we do it on our family grove in Sky Valley, California.

How our Medjool dates are grown

  • No pesticides sprayed on the fruit. We protect the bunches with harvest bags, not chemical sprays.
  • No synthetic fertilizers.
  • No biosolids, ever. We’ve turned down sewage-derived “compost” offered to farms, because of the PFAS “forever chemicals” concern. The compost we buy has to come from disclosed clean sources: green waste and manure only.
  • An isolated grove. We sit at the end of the road in Sky Valley, with no neighboring farms, so there’s no spray drift blowing in from next door.
  • Desert sun and deep mineral water. Our palms drink from the same hot mineral aquifer the Desert Hot Springs area is known for.
  • Whole fruit, one ingredient. Nothing added, nothing coated, no preservatives. Picked, cleaned, packed and cold-stored on the farm.

So why aren’t we certified organic?

We respect certified growers; certification is real work. For a small family grove, though, it’s mostly a paperwork and inspection system: certified inputs bought from certified suppliers, inspections at packing, and every pound tracked from palm to box. That cost and overhead lands on small farms hardest. We’ve chosen to put our effort into how the fruit is grown and to tell you plainly what we do and don’t use. It has cost us some big orders, and we’re fine with being upfront about that.

One honest caution: we can’t and don’t call our dates “organic.” That word belongs to certified farms. If you see anyone describing our fruit that way, it’s not from us.
