Metropolitan Atlanta is home to the fastest-growing Muslim community in the American Southeast, with substantial concentrations in Clarkston, Stone Mountain, Decatur, Lilburn, Norcross, Suwanee, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Marietta, Smyrna, and the broader metro region. The community spans Pakistani, Indian, Arab, Bangladeshi, Bosnian, Somali, Eritrean, Ethiopian, Sudanese, West African, and African American Muslim families. Clarkston in particular — often called “the most diverse square mile in America” — hosts a remarkable concentration of refugee Muslim families from across East and West Africa. At Desert Sun Dates, we ship our hand-harvested California Medjool dates (tamr al-majhool, تمر المجهول) directly from our private date ranch to Atlanta-area families for Iftar, Suhoor, and Eid.

Metro Atlanta’s Muslim community has grown rapidly over the past two decades — driven by professional immigration to the suburbs of Gwinnett, Cobb, Fulton, and Forsyth counties; refugee resettlement in Clarkston and DeKalb County; and secondary migration from cities further north. The Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam in southwest Atlanta serves a historic African American Muslim community with deep roots, while Masjid Al-Mu’minun, Masjid Al-Farooq, the Roswell Community Masjid, the Suwanee Masjid Al Hamza, and dozens of suburban masajid serve the immigrant and convert communities.
For Pakistani and Indian Muslim families across Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Suwanee, and Lilburn, Iftar tables feature samosas, pakoras, fruit chaat, and biryani — opened with dates and water. For Arab families across Roswell and Sandy Springs, fattoush, kibbeh, and grilled meats follow the dates. For Bosnian families, burek. For Eritrean, Ethiopian, Somali, and Sudanese families across Clarkston and Stone Mountain, injera, sambusa, and full open the post-maghrib meal. The date is the universal opener across every community.

We deliver throughout Atlanta, Decatur, Stone Mountain, Clarkston, Lithonia, Lilburn, Norcross, Duluth, Suwanee, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Marietta, Smyrna, Kennesaw, Lawrenceville, Snellville, Tucker, and the broader metro region. For Ramadan, we recommend ordering 1–2 weeks before the start of the month.
