Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin in early February (around the 7th–8th, subject to the moon sighting), and dates sell out fast in the weeks before it. We grow Medjool and Zahidi dates on our family farm in Sky Valley, in California’s Coachella Valley, and ship them whole and unpitted — the traditional fruit for breaking the fast, direct from the people who picked it, with shipping included.

Why dates for iftar

Breaking the fast with dates follows the practice of the Prophet ﷺ, and there’s wisdom in it a farmer can appreciate: after a day of fasting, a date delivers quick natural sugars, potassium and fiber in a form the body accepts gently. A whole, unpitted date — nothing added, nothing removed — is the fruit as the tradition knew it. That is the only kind we pack.

What we grow

  • Medjool — large, soft, caramel-sweet. The centerpiece date for iftar tables. 1–12 lb boxes, $19–$118, shipping included.
  • Zahidi — golden, firmer, moderately sweet. Closer in character to the everyday dates of the Gulf, and it keeps beautifully through the whole month. From $15.

Everything is one ingredient: dates. No glucose coating, no sulfites, no added sugar. Grown without pesticides — not certified organic, and we say so plainly.

When to order

Order by mid-January for a comfortable margin. We ship year-round from cold storage, but two things tighten in the weeks before Ramadan: our remaining crop (one harvest a year — when the cold room empties, that’s it until September) and parcel networks, which slow as holiday-level volume hits. A case ordered in January sits happily in a cool room until the month begins; our storage guide covers exactly how.

Common questions

Are your dates halal?

Dates are a natural whole fruit and inherently halal. Ours contain nothing but the fruit itself — no coatings, no additives, no processing beyond washing, sorting and packing on our farm.

Do you ship nationwide?

Yes — shipping is included to the lower 48. We’re an online farm store; there is no shop to visit, and your order comes straight from the farm’s cold room.

Can we order for a whole masjid?

Yes. A 60 lb case breaks into 60 one-pound containers (or 30 two-pound), which committees tell us is the practical way to distribute. Multiple cases are no problem with notice — the earlier in January, the better.

Which date is most traditional for iftar?

Any whole date honors the tradition. If you want the closest thing to the dates of the Hijaz, Ajwa and Sukkari are imports we don’t grow — our Ajwa vs Medjool and Sukkari vs Medjool comparisons explain the differences honestly. What we offer is the freshest possible fruit: California-grown, one harvest old at most.

Lock in early: masjids and markets can reserve Ramadan 2027 cases now — a small deposit holds today’s price and your fruit before the February rush.
