Greater Boston is home to one of the most highly educated Muslim communities in America — anchored by the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center (ISBCC) in Roxbury, the largest mosque in New England, and the Islamic Society of Boston in Cambridge, founded in the 1980s near MIT. The community spans Pakistani, Indian, Arab, Bangladeshi, Turkish, Bosnian, Somali, Indonesian, and African American Muslims spread across the city, Cambridge, Quincy, Worcester, and the broader metro. At Desert Sun Dates, we ship our hand-harvested California Medjool dates (tamr al-majhool, تمر المجهول) directly from our private date ranch to Boston-area families for Iftar, Suhoor, and Eid.

Boston’s Muslim community has been shaped by the region’s universities and hospitals — Harvard, MIT, Tufts, BU, Northeastern, the Mass General–Brigham network, and dozens of others draw Muslim students, researchers, and professionals from around the world. The ISBCC in Roxbury, opened in 2009 after decades of community planning, is the largest mosque in the Northeast and serves as a cultural and educational anchor. The Islamic Society of Boston in Cambridge and the Yusuf Mosque, the Islamic Center of Boston in Wayland, and the Worcester Islamic Center serve dispersed communities throughout the metro.
For Pakistani and Indian Muslim families across Cambridge, Boston, Quincy, and the suburbs, Iftar tables feature samosas, pakoras, fruit chaat, biryani, and haleem — opened with dates and water. For Arab families, fattoush, kibbeh, and stuffed grape leaves follow the dates. For Bangladeshi families, iftari spreads of beguni, piyaju, and chhola. For African American Muslim families across Roxbury and Dorchester, traditional spreads with halal preparation. The date is the universal first bite.

We deliver to Boston, Cambridge, Quincy, Brookline, Newton, Somerville, Medford, Malden, Revere, Lynn, Worcester, Lowell, Framingham, Wayland, and the broader metro region. We also ship throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, southern New Hampshire, and southern Maine. For Ramadan, we recommend ordering 1–2 weeks before the start of the month.
