Chicago and its surrounding suburbs are home to one of the most established Muslim communities in the United States, with Illinois ranking third in the nation by Muslim population at roughly 473,000. The Chicagoland Muslim community is anchored by Bridgeview’s “Little Palestine,” Devon Avenue’s South Asian corridor, and growing suburban communities in Skokie, Niles, Orland Park, Naperville, and Schaumburg. At Desert Sun Dates, we ship our hand-harvested California Medjool dates (tamr al-majhool, تمر المجهول) directly from our private date ranch to Chicago families for Iftar, Suhoor, and Eid celebrations.

Bridgeview, Illinois — often called “Little Palestine” — has been the heart of Arab Muslim Chicago since the 1970s. The Mosque Foundation on 93rd Street is one of the largest and most influential mosques in the Midwest, and the surrounding blocks are lined with halal grocers, Arabic bakeries, and family restaurants. Devon Avenue on Chicago’s North Side serves as the cultural spine of the Pakistani, Indian, and Bangladeshi Muslim community, with halal butchers, sari shops, and restaurants operating side by side.
In the suburbs, the Muslim population has grown rapidly: Skokie, Niles, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Naperville, Schaumburg, and Hoffman Estates all host substantial Muslim communities, multiple masajid, and full-service Islamic schools. The collar counties saw some of the fastest Muslim population growth of any U.S. region in the past decade.
For Palestinian families in Bridgeview and the southwest suburbs, Iftar tables center on maqluba, musakhan, and mahshi — opened with dates and water following the prophetic sunnah. For Pakistani families along Devon Avenue and in Naperville, the Iftar spread runs from samosas and pakoras to biryani and haleem. For Bosnian and Albanian families in the northern suburbs, burek and baklava follow the dates. Across every tradition, the date opens the meal.

We deliver to Chicago and all of Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry counties, including Bridgeview, Burbank, Oak Lawn, Hickory Hills, Palos Hills, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Skokie, Niles, Morton Grove, Lincolnwood, Glenview, Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Naperville, Aurora, and Bolingbrook. For Ramadan, we recommend ordering 1–2 weeks before the start of the month.
